A Note Concerning Raw Meat Diets: "Due to these risks (from salmonellosis,) AAHA (American Animal Hospital Assoication) recommends that pet owners not feed their pets a raw meat based diet and encourages owners to ask their veterinarian for advice regarding a nutritionally balanced diet that is appropriate for their pet's age and lifestyle."  These diets are a potential risk not only to pets but to humans as well.  Read the article from the AAHA.

55% of all research on dog and cat nutrition is carried out by Royal Canin. Their US headquarters is in St. Charles, MO. and their manufacturing plant is in Rolla, MO.

It is recommended when switching to the Royal Canin products that the product is introduced gradually to avoid any disgestive upset due the high protein nature of the products.  For the first 5-7 days mix your current product and the Royal Canin product with 25% being the Royal Canin product.  Repeat the process every 5-7 days increasing by 25% until you are only using the Royal Canin product.

Royal Canin's expertise draws on the daily experience of breeders and veterinary nutritionists and on their own scientifice observations made by their Research & Development department.  It is also complemented by information provided by researchers, professors and academic specialist from all over the works.

Royal Canin's Canine Health Nutrition contains rigorously selected proteins that are processed by a tightly controlled manufacturing process to ensure optimal assimilation.  Proteins must be of excellent quality to ensure they are correctly assimilated by the body and also to limit the amount of undigested remains arriving in the colon.  A large quantitiy of undigested protein residue can result in an increase in fermentation activity and therefore a higher water content in the feces.

Palatability makes all the difference.  The smell, shape, texture and taste are all major parts in a dog's choice of food.  In order to ensure maximum palatability, Royal Canin's Canine Health Nutrition foods are formulated using quality nutrients, excellent raw materials and natural aromas and flavors.  The food is tailormade in shape, size and texture in relationship to the size of each size specific/breed specific's jaw: soft and easy to rehydrate for puppies, easy to chew for mature dogs.

Canine Health Nutrition foods are packed in airtight sealed bags.  This technology ensures that nutritional qualities, vitamin levels and aromas are all perfectly preserved.

Canine Health Nutrition provides exclusive solutions by taking into account not only the dog's age, size, physical activity and physiological condition, but also the major sensitivities of each population of dogs:

Specialized Size Specific Nutrition for Dogs

MINI is for up to 20 lbs. and for much larger energy requirements per pound; exceptional longevity & small teeth.
MEDIUM is for 21-55 lbs. and for those dogs originally bred as working dogs; very energetic with a sensitive immune system
MAXI is for dogs 56 - 100 lbs. and is formulated for longer growth duration; larger growth range; larger weight; smaller digestive capacity; and heavy demands on natural defenses.

  • MAXI dogs use a lot of energy. They are often sporting, sled, rescue or hunting dogs, which means that their energy needs are affected by the ambient climate, intensity of physical effort required, and also their breed. Their very active temperament, combined with a large body mass, puts major stress on their joints and over time, the cartilage can be damaged and arthritis develops.  Choosing a specially formulated food from a very young age can help protect the MAXI dog's joints.

  • MAXI dogs are particularly prone to digestive sensitivity.  This usually shows itself as larger stools that are soft and smell bad, which can be a direct result of the specific anatomical and physiological characteristics of large breed dogs. Some factors (such as lifestyle or an unbalanced diet) can aggravate or intensify the MAXI dog's digestive sensitivity. Weight gain is a common tendency for dogs and may be caused by a genetic predisposition of some dogs to be gluttonous (like Labradors), physiological reasons (sterilization decreases energy needs by 30%), sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise, and an inadequate food which is too rich or otherwise unbalanced. Early signs of weight gain are fat deposits on chest, back or haunches, loss of tone, unwillingness to exercise or heat intolerance and rapid panting.

  • The heart rate of the MAXI dog is lower than small breed dogs. But their hearts work harder. This explains a higher cardiac sensitivity of large breed dogs, and even more for hyperactive large breed dogs.

  • The life expectancy for a MAXI dog is around 10 years. To help fight against the effects of aging, it makes sense to choose a food specifically adapted to their size from a very early age and throughout their adult life. The signs of aging vary but can include: lower energy levels and tiring more quickly, slower digestion results in poorer assimilation of nutrients, white hairs appear, the coat is harsher and duller, and the skin less elastic, the cardiac function changes and there is increased risk of kidney problems.

  • The growth stage is from weaning to 15 months.  This is reflected in an immature digestive system, a fragile immunity period, and rapidly developing skeleton and muscles. RC MAXI BABYDOG 30 and RC MAXI LARGE BREED PUPPY will accomodate this growth stage.

  •
MAXI life stage Large Breed Adult and Aging Care 26 will accomodate the later stages.  The MAXI Large Breed Adult (up to age 5) is formulated for easy digestion, ideal body weight and healthy joints. The MAXI Aging Care 26 (over age 5) is formulated to fight plaque and tartar, enhance digestibility and promote healthy joints.

  • MAXI Weight Care 27 is formulated for appetite satisfaction, maintaining muscle tone and healthy joints. It contains L-Carnitine which helps to burn fat.  MAXI Joint and Coat Care 28 is formulated for skin and coat beauty, enhanced digestibility and healthy heart. Due to their heavy weight, large breed dogs receive a lot of pressure on their joints. Very high levels of glucosamine and chondroitin help protect your large breen adults dog's joints. Omega 3 essential fatty acids coming from anchovy oil help limit inflammation of the joints.

GIANT is  for Giant-Breed Dogs (over 100 lbs.) over 18 Months of Age. Giant sized dogs were predominantly selected based on morphologies, focusing on hypertrophy of a specific characteristic. Their long growth (18-24 months) must be monitored very closely to prevent any malformation in the skeleton and muscles.
  • Giant Kibble Size - A special kibble shape and size encourages the dog to chew and also increases a brushing effect.
  • Healthy Joints - Supplemental Chondroitin and glucosamine may help to support healthy joint function and improve mobility.
  • High in Antioxidants - A complex of antioxidant vitamins C, E and taurine may help to slow the aging process.
  • Healthy Heart - Supplemental taurine and antioxidants like vitamins E & C combined with L-carnitine may help to support heart health
