AKC Field Trials and Hunting Tests Field trials are held separately for the breeds developed for this purpose (pointing breeds, retrievers, spaniels, beagles, basset hounds and dachshunds.) Retrievers, pointing breeds and spaniels are also eligible to participate in hunting tests. The difference between field trials and hunting tests is that in field trials the dogs are judged against one another and in hunting tests they are judged against a standard performance for the breed. Field trial titles are: Field Champion (FC) Amateur Field Champion (AFC)
Hunting test titles are: Junior Hunter (JH) Senior Hunter (SH) Master Hunter (MH)
